Moving Nightmare

Soooooo... we packed our suitcases and headed to California.
We didn't pack up our house, because our mover said he could have his packer do it for $200. Score!
The packer showed up the weekend before we left, and brought her teenage daughter with her.
The daughter picked up one of my tiaras and asked if it was real.
I told her it wasn't real diamonds, just something from my pageant days.

The packer told us a few hours later that she ran out of tape, so we gave her our door opener, paid her $300 cash, and let her know she had a week to finish packing before the movers came.

As we were driving back to AZ the next week, Darren said, What if we get home and things aren't packed?
I told him to stop being so negative.

Um. Well. We opened the garage door.
Our stuff wasn't packed.
We walked in the house.
Our stuff wasn't packed.
It's 11:00 pm and the movers are coming @ 8 am the next morning.
Next was the most random thing ever. I walked into my scrapbook room, and THIS was written in black crayon on the wall. Wieeeerd.

The teenage daughter had written a note for us and left it on the counter.
The handwriting matched the graffiti on the wall.
Should I be flattered or disturbed? {besides being ticked?!}

We ran to Walmart and bought out all their moving boxes.
We called our moving guy and freaked out on him a little.
That wasn't the end of the headache & hassle, but I'll spare you the details.

Affordable Movers will no longer have an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, that's all I'm sayin.'

OK, here are some of the sordid details...
The next day {after we thought about it, we realized she had already been paid, so why should we do it?!} the mover made the packing lady come finish the job.
It took all day {and Courtney was literally packing faster than the packing lady}
-They didn't wrap anything--including my light living room furniture.
-They didn't bring a big enough truck, so they had to hitch an open trailer to the back--with my unwrapped furniture in it. The minute they pulled out, a monsoon came and drenched all our stuff in mud.
-They STILL didn't have enough room, so they left half our garage full and told us they'd be back to deliver it in a month.
-They left part of my piano in the garage.
-They took the lid off my piano and left it tipped on its side for hours. When I told them to please put it back together, they refused and said they were "doing the best they could." ???
-The move took so long {since things weren't packed} that we had to pull another all-nighter to clean the house and drive to CA. Darren was driving & sleeping with his eyes open. Not good...
-When they got here, we didn't want to pay them full price, but Darren wanted me to pay a little extra to insure that the rest of our belongings would be brought to us safely the next month.
-After they left, we were so exhausted and hungry that we went to go out to eat. We closed the door, only to discover that we were locked out of the house. We waited for a locksmith, who told us over the phone that it would be about $60, but could be more depending on the lock. $160 later, he gave up and drilled a hole in our doorknob.
-We are still recovering and finding things that were broken, beat up or left behind. Urg!

Seriously, though. All through it, we had blessings. Angels must have been keeping our car on the road that night. Becky Hale & her son came over to our house @ 10:30 p.m. after hearing about our fiasco and offerred to help. We are so blessed, I shouldn't complain. We are so thrilled to be reunited as a family, and worldly posessions are just stuff.
{and the crayon drawing came off with magic eraser:)}
